There’s obvious progress visible from the outside of the new Golden Manor long-term care home, being built in front of the existing one. Planning is also progressing for what will be inside.
City council has approved almost $1.5-million from the project budget for furniture, fixtures and equipment.
Manor administrator Lia Fontana says not much equipment can be moved over from the old place: beds, for instance.
“Typically we replace a certain number of beds every year and we haven’t done that,” she tells council. “So we’re just kind of keeping them going for the next year and a half.”
Fontana says if any beds are moved over, they’ll be kept for parts.
“If we look at lifts for example, it’s a completely different ceiling lift system in the new home than we currently have so no, that will not move over. Some of our floor lifts for example , yes, will move over.”
The target date to occupy the new building is still late in 2026.
