Provincial money helps doctor recruitment in Timmins beef up promotional material

Physician recruitment in Timmins is getting an injection of cash from a program of the provincial government.

The $77,500 is being used to beef up promotional materials, including a video featuring testimonials from doctors already practicing here.

Timmins and District Hospital physician recruiter Cory Krupa says five doctors have committed to Timmins this year, putting it on a record pace.  And he has interest from a few others who will be in town for a site visit this summer.

“It takes some time, a few years to kind of build that pipeline, but we’re starting to see the fruits of our labour right now,” Krupa notes, “and we’re getting more site visits (and) more and more inquiries than ever before. So we’re definitely building on that momentum.”

Krupa says Timmins is currently short 15 to 20 family doctors and 25 specialists.

A  new video touts the Timmins lifestyle; and the flexibility for doctors working at TADH, not boxing them in as larger hospitals do.

“Having testimonials from our local physicians really makes a big impact,” says Krupa. “Also physicians listen to physicians, so their word goes a lot further than mine per se.”

The campaign also highlights the collegiality among the doctors.

Physician recruitment is a cooperative effort between TADH, its recruitment and retention committee and the Timmins Economic Development Corporation.
