Annual Hazardous Waste Event comes up next weekend in Timmins

This is the weekend to hit your basement, garage and shed and round up all the hazardous waste you’ve accumulated.  Then next Saturday, June 14th, bring it to the city’s annual Hazardous Waste Event.

Environmental compliance manager Christina Beaton says that means cleaning products… automotive products, lawn chemicals, paint, batteries and so on.

“It’s a great way for people to be able to properly dispose of these materials, as you know, we don’t want to see them end up down the drain or in the landfill,” Beaton remarks.. “This is the best way for us to be able to properly manage these materials.”

Textiles are also being accepted again this year.

The event runs from 8:00am until 2:00pm at the snow dump off Spruce St. at Iroquois Rd. Beaton says it’s not difficult once you get there.

“It goes really well, it’s very efficient. You stay in your vehicle. We come out, we grab the material from your vehicle and we bring it to the sorting tables that are run by JFL Environmental. It’s a really great program.”

Beaton says an even better alternative is to use up all your material such as paint or swap it with someone who needs it.
