Young Eagles take flight this Saturday

Increased small aircraft traffic over Timmins is expected this Saturday morning, as the Young Eagles program presents its annual day to take kids for a ride.

Noel Belair is the Young Eagles coordinator for the Timmins Flying Club. He says all 90 seats are taken.  But there’s plenty to see at the airport.

“We have static displays from Thunder, Creebec, Perimeter; the city of Timmins will have their snow removal equipment out there,” he outlines. “We’re actually going to even have some remote control airplanes out there this year.”

Young Eagles is for kids between eight and 17. One aim is to get them interested in flying.

“Aviation in general,” says Belair, “whether it be private pilot, commercial pilot, medical examiner practitioner for pilots. You can get into Nav Canada, you can get into the airport perspective.”

Everything is free, although there will be food for sale. Things get off the ground at 9:00am. Belair expects everything to be wrapped up by about 1:00pm..
