Farmers Market aims to be double the size

The first of 20 Saturdays this summer is in the books at the Mountjoy Farmers Market, at the old truck ranch beside the Mattagami River.

Market chair Rock Whissell says fundraising is underway for a second pavilion.

“So we’re looking to double up the building that’s there now. We’re hoping to put everything together throughout the summer and most likely start construction the weekend after Thanksgiving,” Whissell remarks. “If we could double the building another hundred feet by 30 feet – they’re 3,000 square feet – would be nice to continue to support the vendors that come out to the market and have even more people underneath the pavilion.”

Thanksgiving Saturday, October 11th, is the final market day of the year. It runs from 9:00am until noon.
