The Mountjoy Farmers Market opens for its 20-week season this Saturday next to the Mattagami River – the first time it has actually operated in May.
Market chair Rock Whissell says vendor spaces for week 1 are sold out, with more than 45 vendors occupying 54 tables.
Early produce, including some from greenhouses is available, as well as fresh meat.
And the market continues its tradition of providing entertainment.
“The buskers will be out there throughout the summer as well,” Whissell notes. “ And we’re continuing to try to entertain and have a little bit different every Saturday, and we’ll see what else we come up with throughout the summer.
The market happens every Saturday between 9:00am and noon until Thanksgiving.
Whissell says as the growing season progresses, what’s up for grabs changes every week. He adds that it’s also great to bring your kids.
“Actually, this year we have quite a few kid vendors. So the lemonade stand is back, the candy floss table is there again this year through Rubber Boot Farms, and all the different treats. I mean you can’t get any better for cookies and for all those treats that the kids definitely love.”
