Grills snuffed out on Rotary Ribfest 2025

The delicious smell of ribs on the grill, smothered in barbecue sauce and the feeling of that sauce all over your face that you get from Rotary Ribfest won’t be happening this summer.

The Rotary Club has had to pull the plug. Committee member Jonathon McColl says the plan hit a brick wall trying to get businesses and organizations to chip in to pay for the very expensive event.

“And unfortunately,” he continues, “when May Run came along, we had out meeting and it was determined by the board that we just didn’t have the funding available to make this happen.”

Equally disappointing is that last year’s ribbers said Timmins was their best event in all of Ontario.

“A lot of places around Ontario, where they’ve done Ribfest for a number of years in the last decade or so, so many of them have had to stop doing it, just because of the expense.”

McColl doesn’t know if Ribfest will ever return.  However, he says the Rotary Club is looking for something to do for the city next summer.
