Fedeli lobbying to reinstate the spring bear hunt

A Northern Ontario MPP is saying bears are becoming a nuisance. Nipissing representative Vic Fedeli spoke in the Ontario legislature yesterday, asking for the spring bear hunt to be reinstated permanently. He is also asking it be allowed to continue during the province’s review of the two-year pilot project. He says human and bear encounters are only part of the problem.

He says those encounters tie up police, which ends up costing taxpayers significant dollars. Fedeli says the hunt brings in $40 million of economic activity to Ontario. According to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, the annual hunt is a successful wildlife management tool.
