Mayor Michelle Boileau says Timmins has been busy the past year, and continues to be busy this year, preparing for growth in the city.
In her state of the city speech to a Chamber of Commerce lunch, the mayor spoke about “Team Timmins”. That’s what she and MPP George Pirie call themselves, as they meet regularly to deliver on their shared vision for growth and sustainability.
“But this is important, because Timmins hasn’t seen this kind of working relationship between city hall and our MPP’s office in a long time,” Boileau remarked, “and no mayor and MPP duo have been able to deliver on what we have, together for Timmins.”
Boileau went on to say that the advocacy work she and Pirie did together last year brought in about $34-million dollars for recreation; infrastructure for 240 new housing lots in Melrose; rehabilitating Municipal Rd.; and encampment response.
TRUCK BYPASS
We won’t see a full truck bypass around Timmins in the year-and-a-half left in the current council term. What we could see, though, is a preliminary move towards that.
Mayor Boileau said she’s committed to getting large industrial trucks out of the city core.
“By no means do we want to stop these trucks from running, because we know if that’s the case, that’s the end of Timmins. But we want to try to get them off the critical infrastructure, out of the way and onto roadways that are more appropriate for industrial traffic.”
