Connecting link work moves east

The east end of Timmins gets the benefit of connecting link construction the next two summers.

The city has awarded a contract for almost $22-million. Infrastructure and growth director Scott Tam says it covers the highway between Crawford Street and the bridge headed into Porcupine; and the contractor aims to do as much as possible this summer.

Councillor John Curley says the work will take care of an issue at the fire and paramedic complex, moving its entrance to the traffic lights at Porcupine Mall. He says it will also help by installing lights at the Northern College entrance.

“Because the increased traffic there from the students, the patients for East End Clinic; if there’s expansion that’s going to be taking place along with the Tisdale Bus Lines next door, with their big garage going in,” says Curley, the councillor for that area.

Tam says there will be minimal traffic disruptions during construction, requiring temporary lane reductions only.
