News Cochrane is getting some money to upgrade their barn SHARE ON: Taylor Ablett, staff Friday, Sep. 25th, 2015 The Tim Hortons Event Centre in Cochrane is about to receive $325,000 to improve its services and facilities. The announcement came from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation of $1.3 million dollars going towards Cochrane and Kirkland Lake facilities. Cochrane’s Mayor Peter Politis says the donation will go a long way to the final objective of taking their arena and turning it into a convention centre for the region. He says to do that, they need some high-tech media tools established, with a booth and upgraded equipment. The seating capacity also needs to be expanded to hold large tournaments, like the Dudley Hewitt Cup. Kirkland Lake will receive $1 million for a six-lane indoor pool facility with the goal of attracting provincial and regional tournaments. (Written by Greg Rosser)
