The U14A Timmins Tornadoes earned the gold medal at the Ringette Ontario Provincial Championships with a strong overall performance.
In the round robin stage, the team secured victories with scores of 6-1 against Nepean, 2-0 against Sudbury, 5-1 against Barrie, and 5-3 against Sunderland. Although they experienced a 4-5 loss to Sault Ste. Marie, the Tornadoes rebounded with a solid 3-0 win over Sudbury in the semi-finals.
In the championship final against Sault Ste. Marie, the opposing team scored the first goal at 12:45 of the first period. In the second period, Timmins responded with a goal at 8:23. They then took advantage of a power play to score at 6:38. Sault Ste. Marie managed to score their second goal on a power play at 4:32, but the Tornadoes secured the win with their third goal at 4:25 remaining in the second period.
The gold medal victory reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire team. Head coach Erin Rathbone led the team with the support of assistant coaches Serge Comé, Josée Robertson and Paul Vandal. The team’s preparation was further enhanced by trainer Yannick Audet and team manager Heidi Lamothe, along with valuable contributions from the player’s support systems.
