Step up with suggestions to improve the city’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Day

Your annual chance to clean out your basement and garage and get rid of hazardous materials without just going to the dump in Timmins could change, depending on your input.

City Hall’s environmental services manager, Tyler Cheff says the goal is having more people bringing more material to Household Hazardous Waste Day, keeping it out of landfills and sewers.

“We want to improve,” he states. “It’s a very important service, so we want feedback on communication, the date of the event and challenges people have had. This event is something that we’re very passionate about and the more material we can divert, the better it is for our community and the environment.”

Cheff says one important aspect is “when” the day-long diversion event should be held.

“Through social media and in passing, we’re heard that the summer months are more difficul, just with the nice weather and people’s vacation. So if we could provide something in the fall, it might get more numbers.”

You can share your input here.

Household Hazardous Waste Day also accepts electronics, textiles and books. Cheff says they’re kept out of landfills and repurposed.
