Shooting a gun within the city limits is illegal, says TPS

Timmins police are reminding residents that it’s illegal to shoot bears in the city limits. They have been getting calls about people trying to dispatch bears in the city, but this can be very dangerous. The by-law says it’s prohibited to discharge a firearm in the city. That could mean a gun, a cross-bow, long-bow, or spring-gun. Getting caught could mean a fine of $5,000.

The by-law applies, but is not limited, to these areas:

  • That part of the geographic Township of Jessop consisting of a strip of land within 300 metres in width along both sides of Highway 629 (Airport Road)
  •  All of the geographic area in the Township of Mountjoy
  • That part of lots 2 to 5 inclusive in the second, third, and fourth concessions in the geographic area of the Township of Robb which is situate within 120 metres from the shoreline of Kamiscotia Lake
  • All of the geographic area in the Township of Tisdale
  • All of the geographic area in the Township of Whitney
  • All of that part of lots 9 to 12 in the fifth and sixth concessions in the geographic area of the Township of Shaw
