There’s a quicker, time saving way to report a minor car accident to Timmins Police.
Before going into the Collision Reporting Centre at HQ on Spruce Street, you can begin the process online.
Constable Colyn Watson of the traffic department says it’s available if there is only minor damage, and no damage to public property.
“People are busy in their everyday lives, right,” he observes, “so they go home or take your break at work and they can just log on and essentially start their collision report right from their device, their phone, their computer.”
Your report includes your insurance documents, licence plate number and the other driver’s same information, if you get it.
Const. Watson emphasizes that the cutoff is $5,000 damage.
“If it’s over $5,000 or if there’s injuries or if there’s damage to public property like a hydro pole or a building or anything that is aside from the two vehicles involved, that has to get reported to police as well.”
Using the online reporting tool, you’re given 48 hours after filing the report to finish things up in person at the Collision Reporting Centre.
