Support the seniors and create jobs for the youth, says Angus

Diversifying the economy is going to help boost the Timmins-James Bay riding this election. That’s according to New Democrat candidate Charlie Angus, who says we need to look in the long-term. He says we have an ageing demographic, so we need to keep younger workers here. He says back in the day Timmins attracted all kinds of young people because of the mines, but now we are seeing an older population right across the region.

He says because of that, there needs to be a proper pension system and a housing strategy for seniors. There is no real solution for seniors who want to move out of their homes, especially in the rural areas.

When it comes to diversifying the economy, Angus says we do that by supporting small businesses. He says mining and forestry are important, but jobs need to be created to make sure young people have opportunities to work.

Conservative candidate John Curley, Liberal candidate Todd Lever, and Green Party candidate Max Kennedy all agree that job creation and growing the riding’s economy are the biggest issues for this election.
