It’s not up to the dogs that run off-leash at Riverview Dog Park to keep it clean and open all winter. It’s up to their humans.
The committee that operates the park in Timmins hopes a new approach prevents having to shut the park down for the rest of the winter.
Committee member Kori Ferrigan says a big crowd of users turned out last weekend, to help clean up what other dog owners failed to dispose of.
And beginning Friday, the gate will be locked between 6:00pm and 9:00am..
“Because some of the problem right now is the park’s not lit,” Ferrigann explains. “So if you are there after five o’clock, I don’t even understand, because it’s so dark, how you’re going around and cleaning up after your dog”
Ferrigan says the ultimate solution is easy.
“As a dog owner, you should have poop bags in every pocket of every coat, of every pair of pants, in your car, so you have no reason not to pick up your poop.”
As spring arrives and we get more daylight, the hours will be extended.
