24-year-old financial advisor expects to be acclaimed provincial NDP candidate

Timmins born, raised and educated Corey Lepage expects to be acclaimed next month as the NDP candidate for the Timmins riding in the next provincial election.

Lepage has a bachelor of business administration from Université de Hearst and is a financial advisor at Caisse Alliance.  He says he’s been a New Democrat since before he could vote.

“I’m 24 years old now,” he says, “so I’ve been supporting the NDP for several years, because I truly believe in its core values. Things like access to health care, affordable housing and supporting our working class.”

Lepage says it’s time for a new generation of leadership with fresh ideas and perspectives.

Asked if he thinks the New Democrats stand a chance at forming the next government, he says it’s hard to tell, but the Ford government has had seven years to show its agenda, and its policies are lacking

“Anyone who lives in Timmins are aware of the issues that we have, like the drug epidemic and the crisis that we have with homelessness. So public safety is a major factor and that certainly has not gone better in the last seven years or in the last three years of having the Conservatives in power.”

You can listen to our entire interview below. Lepage comments on being up against Conservative incumbent George Pirie, and what it means to be endorsed by former NDP MPP Gilles Bisson.

The nomination meeting is on January 16th. Party leader Marit Stiles is expected to attend.
