A Timmins resident who’s often front and centre at local cultural events is the new executive director of the Canadian Comedy Hall of Fame.
Through her work as vice-president of Festivals and Events Ontario, Marnie Lapierre met comedian and actor Tim Progosh, who founded the Hall of Fame. She admits to being star struck at their first meeting.
“From there, we just developed a working relationship,” she says, “where he saw the potential that I had to bring to the table to help with his organization that he started, and it’s just grown from there.”
It’s fitting that the executive director of the Canadian Comedy Hall of Fame lives in Timmins. Lapierre says we have a lot to laugh about here.
She notes that homegrown comic Derek Edwards often comes north to perform, brought in by fellow stand-up comic Rick Lemieux, who’s responsible for a lot of other shows.
“We also have another organization in town called Low Key Events with Ben Nash and a few of the others that he works with,” says Lapierre, “that they bring in comedy shows to different venues like Full Beard, the Surge and the Porcupine Dante Club.”
Audio of our interview is right here. You can hear Lapierre elaborate on what the Hall of Fame does, and how you can support it.
