Goodbye Route 101, hello again Route 16

After a two-month pilot project, Timmins Transit is eliminating the new Route 101 from Spruce Street to Porcupine, returning to the former Route 16.

General manager Marcel Coté says it’s a combination of input from riders and a drop in the number of available drivers that results in 16 returning next Tuesday.

What’s not being scrapped is micro-transit, which Coté calls convenient in South Porcupine and Porcupine.

“We’re going to leave it in place but we’re going to reinstate the 16 at the same frequency it was before,” says Coté, “because it services more area in Porcupine and South Porcupine.”

The micro-transit service takes riders out to the main bus route and other places within the zone.

“We have some riders that are using it just to go from home to the post office or to a friend’s house or whatever, and that’s still going to be an option,” states Coté.
