The Timmins councillor in whose ward the Ramada Inn is, … wants council support for the health hub project for that site to be paused. Rock Whissell will move a resolution asking for that at Monday’s regular meeting of council.
Whissell says when he was on the district social services board four months ago, he was promised open communication. He says people who live in the area need to be told what the centre is about, and to give their opinions on it.
“I was hoping that last Monday’s meeting was going to share all that information. Unfortunately, it wasn’t, so at this point, I’m asking council to make sure that the residents know what is happening at the location and that we’ll have open conversation.”

Whissell adds that last Monday’s public meeting failed to provide residents of the ward with information from the agencies participating in the project on how it will operate, whether a security guard will be on duty 24-7, and other small questions they’re asking.
“We don’t have to go right down to the details, but at least something for people to be comfortable and need to know what the base of this facility would be and if it’s something that they would agree to have in their neighbourhood.”
The lead agency on the project, the Cochrane District Services Board, has pledged more, better opportunities for that, acknowledging that the format of last week’s event didn’t provide that.
