The City of Timmins is heading off any conflict between hockey and other uses for two of its arenas.
Council has approved $425-thousand for ice cover flooring at the Mac and the Sportsplex.
City clerk Steph Palmateer says the new material will work better than what’s currently used.
“Sometimes we have issues with – say, for instance in the spring, when we have our sportsman show” he says, “if we have our local hockey team making the deep playoff run, we’ll be able to put this on the ice and then you’ll be able to drive on it without any damage or any impact on the ice or the flooring.”
“This will alleviate that problem and will allow us an opportunity to use our facilities, our larger faciiliies, during the winter months, should the need arise.”
Palmateer adds that it will also be in and out faster than the current covering.
