Early ON Centre leaving YMCA, moving to Spruce Hill Lodge

The Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board is closing its EarlyON Centre at the YMCA on July 1st. The Y intends to use the space for 24 more daycare slots.

EarlyON offers a wide range of programs for parents and children up to six years old.

DSSAB children’s services director Shannon Costello says, however, that due to demand in South Porcupine, the EarlyON Centre is moving there.

“That will happen September 1st,” she states. “We’ll be opening up a centre in Spruce Hill Lodge. We’re going to have some programming outside of Spruce Hill Lodge and across the community with our EarlyON program that will be moving.”

Costello looks forward to intergenerational programming there, with residents seeing the centre as part of their home, leading them to volunteer and participate.

“Maybe some joint programming with gardening and art and singing and music,” she outlines. “So we’re really hoping to have a program that the residents enjoy as well.”

EarlyON Centres remain at the Timmins Native Friendship Centre and NEOFACS.
