Wintergreen Fund raising money for upgrade on 55km of trails across Timmins

The Wintergreen Fund for Conservation is on a public drive to raise money to upgrade the 55 kilometres of non-motorized trails across the city.  That includes trails around Hersey and Gillies Lakes.

Fundraising committee member Joy Galloway says the goal is $200,000.

“As you know, access to the trails continues to be free,” she told the campaign kickoff. “We have over 200,000 users annually and additional funds are required.”

Sixty percent of the money has already been donated by companies and community groups.  The campaign now shifts to individuals donating.

“We have developed a blitz in social media with testimonials of the trail use and appreciation; new signage is up; and working with other community organizations, we hope to promote the healthy benefits of the incredible opportunities of using out trails,” says Galloway.
