The future of the Empire Complex is still up in the air.
The iconic building on the corner of Algonquin Boulevard and Spruce Street caught fire March 23rd, displacing about a hundred tenants of 80 apartments in the former hotel.
The Surrey, B.C. real estate investment company that owns the complex says it’s still dealing with the insurance company and doesn’t know what the future holds for the building.
Cranes have been working on clean-up, but City Hall says no construction or demolition permit has been issued.
