Flooding, forest road conditions concerning with heavy rain coming

Environment Canada’s warning of up to 60 mm of rain overnight and into early Saturday – that’s about two inches – is concerning for the people who monitor water levels and potential flooding in Timmins.

The Timmins Flood Advisory Committee says the rain is expected to be heavy at times… causing flash flooding.  And because the ground is so frozen, its ability to absorb the rain is reduced.

The usual precautions about what not to do around fast-running and fast-rising water are in effect.

Meanwhile, the natural resources ministry is warning of hazardous driving conditions on Papakomeka Rd., also known as Pine St. South.

It’s already showing signs of deterioration, mostly between kilometres 18 and 22.  MNRF is expecting the heavy rain to compound that situation.

Repairs will be carried out once the rain has stopped.
