Gas leak empties out high school

About 400 high schoolers in Timmins got an early start to their weekend, due to a gas leak.

“Please be advised of the emergency closure of O’Gorman High School for the remainder of the day, Friday, March 1st,” said Northeastern Catholic District School Board director Tricia Weltz early Friday afternoon, in an email and phone call to O’Gorman High School families.

It was due to a high concentration of carbon monoxide in the building.

Students were moved down the street to O’Gorman Intermediate School, with parents asked to pick them up there.  Regular bus service was also available.

The city fire department was on scene, and Enbridge was called in to determine the source of the potentially fatal gas.

The board expects the school to operate as usual on Monday.
