Army reservists will be navigating around Hersey Lake the next two Thursday nights

The woods around Hersey Lake will be alive with military activity the next two Thursday nights.  It’s actually navigation training for reservists who are part of the Algonquin Regiment.

Maj. Alasdair Galbraith says groups of three to five reservists will be on and off the paths in the woods.

“The point of the training is to make it a little more challenging,” he explains, “so we do some practice inside, but the real rubber to the road comes when the troops get outside and dealing with the dark and the elements and everything going wrong that tends to go wrong outside.”

The soldiers will have rifles, but they won’t be loaded.

“We’re going to be going out in small party tasks,” says Galbraith, “so you’ll see us out in groups of three to five soldiers at a time, and in addition to doing navigation training, we’re also building that teamwork.”

If you’re interested in being part of that team in the army reserves, the audio of our interview with Major Galbraith has that information and more. Click on the link below.
