South Porcupine Winter Carnival rolls this weekend, with old favourites and new events

The South Porcupine Winter Carnival this coming weekend has many of the old favourites – fireworks, of course, putting a cap on it at seven o’clock Sunday night.

And committee member Joanne Hagger-Perritt says it has some new innovations.  Saturday at 7:00pm , instead of a magician, kids will be entertained by Reptile Rob and his critters from Aquatics and Exotics.

“He’ll be providing a lot of interactive opportunities and a lot of education,” Hagger-Perritt says. “So it should be a really great show.”

There’s also an adult amateur stand-up comedy competition and a trivia contest with a twist for teenagers.

Another new, specialized attraction year is on the bouncy castles.  The hour between three and four o’clock Sunday afternoon is set aside for kids who need less commotion.

“So we’re calling that our Sensory Sensitive Hour,” says Hagger-Perritt. AAnd that again is reserved for children with some special needs who would benefit from a little less chaos and just as much fun.”

The full schedule in on the carnival committee’s Facebook page.  And you can hear the complete interview with Joanne Hagger-Perritt right here.
