Help the DARE kids keep smiling

Buy a smile cookie this week to help support our local DARE program. Tim Hortons is stocking the shelves with the cookies all week long. Constable Rick Lemieux, who heads up DARE in Timmins, says the fundraiser is a huge one for the program.

He says when you buy a cookie, you are helping kids in our area. Half of the the funds goes to the program in Timmins, and the other half goes to the north east region. The money will buy the DARE books, t-shirts, and stuffed versions of Daren the lion. Lemieux says that adds up to make the program bigger and better. To run the program, all you need is the book. But he says kids like the lions and the t-shirts. He says they can put that shirt on down the road, and remember what they learned in grade six.

The fundraiser can bring in up to $9,000 for DARE  in Timmins, which costs between $8 and $10 a student to put on. The cookies will be on the shelves in all of the Tims locations all week.
