International Literacy Day gets a local spin

The Timmins Learning Center is raising awareness today, as part of International Literacy Day. Executive Director of the TLC Alison Kozlow, says life-long learning is important, and the learning centre offers a wide variety of free programs to help with that.

She says they are encouraging people to take the next step. It’s never too late to upgrade your skills in reading, writing, and technology. The learning centre helps people enhance those skills for work, school, or personal goals. Kozlow says the demands of work are always increasing, and they help people prepare for that. Or she says some people come in because they want to help their kids with their homework, or learn how to use a computer.

Whatever your motivation, Kozlow says if you don’t use literacy skills, you’ll lose them. The learning centre is funded by Employment Ontario, and it’s all free for those who qualify. Anyone interested in a program can call the learning centre to get started at (705) 360-7100, or go online to the Timmins Learning Centre Website.
