The Timmins Majors U-18 hockey team – U-18 used to be known as Midgets – has a solution for your empty nest syndrome, with the last of your kids off to college or university.
The team needs three billet homes as soon as possible. They’re for players from outside of Timmins.
General manager Ron Holmes says you get $600.00 a month: half from the team, half from the player’s parents.
“As a parent having a young man,” Holmes comments, “I would gladly pay $300 to have somebody else feed my son. They also get season passes and become members of the Timmins Majors family. So we work together and support each other and pursue the ultimate goal.”
The GM adds that all you need is a safe, loving environment, noting that being a teenager away from home might not be easy.
“Lots of supports have to be put in place. A nice clean bedroom, food on the table, the odd ride her and there, mentorship. On some level, I guess, you could even say it would be parenting, to be that mentor and be the adult in their life.”
