A Northern Private Member’s Bill to stop the illegal use of Fentanyl could be going national

A northern plan to stop Fentanyl abuse is making strides in Toronto. Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says the Toronto police are the latest to endorse his Private Member’s Bill before it becomes law. His bill is essentially the patch-for-patch system, where patients would have to bring back their old Fentanyl patches before getting a new prescription. Fedeli says the endorsement from one the country’s biggest police forces is good news.

He says it’s rare that a committee gets that kind of attention. He says this could be what gets the Bill in front of the legislature for the third and final reading, and he wouldn’t be shocked if it happened this year. The point of the patch-for-patch program is to stop people from cutting up old patches and selling them on the streets, which can be fatal. 133 people died in Ontario from a Fentanyl overdose last year.
