Be careful on the water over the long weekend

The Ontario Power Generation wants to make sure everyone stays safe over the long weekend. Director of Corporate Relations and Communications, Bill McKinlay, is raising awareness about the hydroelectric stations along the Mattagami River. He says if you see the warning signs, stay away.

McKinlay says the danger is that the water conditions near the stations can change rapidly. The flows may look calm, but there can be turbulence under the surface. He says to be aware of safety when you’re near the stations. There are 65 hydroelectric stations, and about 240 dams, across the province all marked with signs and fences.
