Mayor Steve Black is going to be promoting Timmins worldwide. Black is off to China this month to go to a trade delegation with nine other Mayors from Ontario. He says the trip will be looking at investment opportunities between the two countries. He says the Timmins area has seen a lot of Chinese investment over the last five years, and the trip will promote the city and its natural resources.
China is our second-largest trading partner. Black says investors are particularly interested in the mining and agriculture industries. He says it’s a good chance to look at the opportunities, and promote the city.
The only other northern Mayor going to China is Al Spacek from Kapuskasing. Spacek is also the President of the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities. Black calls the trip a platform for economic development. They leave in just over two weeks.
