Independent authors expo July 22 at TPL

You can meet 15 independent authors – mostly from Northern Ontario – and buy their latest books on Saturday, July 22nd at the Timmins Public Library.

Indie Author Book Expo organizer Jes Martel says it’s essentially a trade show.

“When you publish on your own without the support of a traditional publisher,” she explains, “you don’t have a distribution network. So a lot of authors rely on these local event to sell their books.”

Martel adds that it’s an opportunity for the writers to meet the readers face-to-face, and tell them the story behind the story.

That’s from 1:00 until 4:00 in the afternoon.  At 10:30am, Martel will conduct a writers’ workshop.

“In this case, the workshop actually covers a lot of different mediums. It’s for any kind of storytelling, whether it’s for film, songwriting, poetry, whatever tells a story, that workshop applies.”

The workshop is open to the general public, too.

Among participating authors are Sharon Bruce and Davis Dewsbury of Timmins.

Bruce is selling the book about her mother’s unusual life called “Shoebox Baby”. Dewsbury is a graphic novelist who has won awards for the comic series “Auric of the Great White North”.
