Mining simulator coming to Timmins

NORCAT is launching a new training centre in Timmins.

A 1.5 million dollar state-of-the-art mining simulator will be shared across the North to be sued for safety training. Students will be able to practice three of the five facets of mining on it including drills, scoops, and bolter’s.

Currently they are trying to figure out what type of training works best.

Manager of Training and Development Ken Stewart says Laurentian University is currently doing studies to determine the best efficiency training since everyone learns differently.

With the non-profit training centre now in Timmins mining companies and mining students here will now be able to have hands-on lessons instead of just computer-based lessons.

NORCAT already provides training for KIDD Operations and it looking to form partnerships with Goldcorp and St. Andrew’s Gold Fields.
