And the sign says, ATV and dirt bike riders, stay out of Schumacher Lions Club Park

Despite signs clearly pointing out that the trail at Schumacher Lions Club Park is for snowmobiles and ATVs in the winter only, ATV and motorcycle operators don’t always get the message.

“From May 15th to October 15th, it is a walking trail,” says park co-chairman Mark West, noting it’s a safety issue.  And with more enhancements added to the park, it’s becoming more popular for people walking and taking in park activities.

“And that’s why I’m concerned,” West remarks. “because I don’t want to see somebody get hurt by these bikes and ATVs that are running through the trail during the summer period.”

There was an incident last weekend during the outdoor craft show, involving Lions member Jim Nault and a rider.

“This guy came by with a four-wheel ATV,” West states. “Jim tried to stop him to talk to him and told him it was strictly a walking trail during the summer and then he gave Jim the finger and did a wheelie on the grass.”

West says the driver also dropped an F-bomb.  He says for the safety of park users, he might have to put up barriers that would allow only pedestrians, wheelchairs and mobility scooters in the park.
