Kayak fest a success, says Tourism Timmins

Events like the Kayak Festival are helping to boost our local economy. That’s what Tourism Timmins manager, and event organizer, Guy Lamarche, is saying about the weekend. Despite the rain on Saturday, over 100 paddlers showed up for the races, and more than 5,000 were out to see Platinum Blonde and the fireworks. Lamarche says events like this are important for Timmins.

He says it brings the community together, and brings in some tourism dollars. Lamarche says there was between 8,000 and 10,000 people in the park throughout the weekend. There were only minor security issues during the concert. He calls the event a tradition, and says he is hopeful it will continue on next summer.
