A new hydroelectric station is creating 220 jobs in Cochrane

A $300-million project is opening up over 200 jobs in the Cochrane area. OPG is building a new hydroelectric generating station about 90 kilometres north of Smooth Rock Falls. Part of the water in New Post Creek will be used to generate electricity by transporting it from the pipe to the power house on the Abitibi River.

The three-year project needs 220 people, from equipment operators, to labourers, to camp support services. The station will eventually power 25 thousand homes in the area.
