Councillor wants half load restriction on Municipal Rd. in rural east end

The councillor representing the rural east end of Timmins wants trucks to be restricted to half the legal weight of their loads on Municipal Rd.

John Curley is looking for support from fellow councillors for the measure on the former part of Hwy. 67 connecting 101 to Hwy. 11 near Porquis. It was downloaded to Timmins and Iroquois Falls about 20 years ago.  Curley is proposing half load designation until the province re-assumes it, or comes up with repair money.

“I’ve talked to the mayor of Iroquois Falls,” he points out. “They’re aware of what my proposal is going forward, and they’re willing also to put a permanent half load from their section.”

“All this is is to bring it forward so that we can probably do some patchwork and what not else, but it’s in dire need like I say for total reconstruction of that highway.”

He’ll ask his council colleagues to support a resolution to that effect at their meeting April 11th.
