Communication key to helping BIA members cope with connecting link work: Chair

This year’s connecting link reconstruction between Wilcox and Cedar Sts. finally brings the work parallel with the BIA.

City councillor and BIA chair Cory Robin has a quick answer to the question of how it will be handled.

“With communication,” he states. “It’s very important for our members to know what’s going on and have answers to their questions, because in the dark, people make up things and rumours spread. So we want to be in front of it all so that everyone knows what’s going on.”

Robin says being ready to answer BIA members’ questions and letting them know well in advance about things like utility interruptions will minimize the impact.

He notes that the major detour will be via Second Ave., and wants to see some of the traffic a block north of there.

“We’re also going to do our best to encourage people to drive down Third Ave. Bring out your signs, have a sale, put a sign with a balloon out that says ‘stop in’. You’re going to see more traffic on Third Ave. than you’ve seen in 20 years.”

Construction will begin as early as possible this spring, with an anticipated wrap-up date of mid- to late November.
