Get ready for this year’s connecting link reconstruction on Algonquin Blvd.

That “other season” in Timmins is only weeks away.

Construction season will again feature a stretch of Algonquin Blvd. being rebuilt, the latest phase in connecting link reconstruction..

The city’s project coordinator, Eryk Rice says the contractor is eager to start as early as possible.

“We are going to start from where we left off last year, at Wilcox, and we’re going to make our way to Cedar Street.”

This is the second year of a three-year contract with Bélanger Construction. It was supposed to finish as far as Mountjoy St. last year, but moved that small stretch from Wilcox St..to this year. Rice says the same could happen if it can’t complete the work to Cedar.

“That is an advantage,” he admits, quickly adding, “The contractor has stated that they are committed to completing the segment 6 and segment 7 up to Cedar this year.”

Rice says that means re-routing traffic around it.

“We’re going to go back to a similar detour plan as we had last year. So the detour should go down Commercial and Second Ave.”

If you drive to the east end of Second Ave., a traffic light will help you get on to Brunette Rd. and back onto Algonquin.

Work will start as soon as the contractor can get going, and last until sometime in November.
