Finalists for Nova business awards were highlighted at a general membership lunch meeting of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce.
And the Chamber for Good Committee presented cheques to two charities in the city.
One was $8,500 to Anti-Hunger Coalition Timmins. Chamber president Dan Ayotte says the money was raised at a maritime kitchen party last month, featuring all manner of maritime cuisine.
“The event saw donairs, crab cakes, deep fried pepperoni,” he details, “as well as our very own version of the infamous screeching-in ceremony, which was horrible.”
Ayotte says kissing a slimy fish is not for everyone. He also handed over a $10,000 cheque to the work of Sports for Kids Timmins.
“Providing opportunities for under-privileged children to participate in sports and activities they may not otherwise have access to. Their commitment to improving the lives of children through sports is truly inspiring.”
