Several Timmins events for International Day to End Racial Discrimination on March 21

Several events are planned in Timmins for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21st.

Local Immigration Partnership coordinator Ifeoma Kasimanwuna is part of the Timmins Together group of partners sponsoring the activities.

They include a lunchtime symposium at the museum called “Racial Discrimination from Awareness to Action”.

“Beyond the awareness,” Kasimanwuna says, “we want to educate ourselves on what to do, actions we can take to make Timmins more anti-discriminatory.”

A book reading presented on Zoom to elementary schools across Timmins is another one of the activities. Kasimanwuna says it will feature the book “All are Welcome” by Alexandra Penfold.

“The book is very inclusive, it’s one that can show students what reality looks like. What schools are beginning to look like in Timmins, where different cultures, different ethnicities are represented.”

There’s a lot more information including how to become involved with the events in this audio link.
