Timmins man running for a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records

UPDATE EARLY SUNDAY MORNING, TIMMINS TIME: Message from Marc Rodrigue: “The deed is done. 6 Star majors, world record, and Tokyo marathon finisher. This boy is tired!

Marc Rodrigue of Timmins is in the race of his life this weekend.

All he has to do is complete the Tokyo Marathon, and he’ll run  into the Guinness Book of World Records as  one of 3,000 people who ran six major marathons it endorses.

Rodrigue says it’s a personal goal he has been pursuing since 2015.

“I love travelling,” he told us from the departure lounge at Pearson Airport. “I love visiting places and these marathon majors series is something that’s been a very big interest for me.”

The race begins at 9:00am Sunday, Tokyo time.

“Which is 14 hours ahead,” Rodrigue notes, “so I’ll actually be starting at just shortly after seven o’clock Saturday night.”

He could have completed the sixth race three years ago, but the one in Tokyo was postponed by the pandemic.
