Tampon Tuesday to address ‘period poverty’

In conjunction with International Women’s Week, the United Way of Northeastern Ontario is putting on Tampon Tuesday on March 7th.

Regional manager Jennifer Gorman says between now and then, you’re asked to buy menstruation products to donate, helping bring awareness to “period poverty”.

“We know that far too many individuals, especially those living in powerty, simply can’t afford it,” Gorman notes. “So we want to bring that awareness. We want to have the products available for them.”

Then on March 7th between 4:00pm and 7:00pm, you can drop them off at Full Beard Brewing… and socialize with other women.

“I’ll be there longer if we need to be,” Gorman adds. “I will also have a guest speaker to talk more about the issue of period poverty as well, and we’ll probably have a few snacks.”

Some workplaces have begun collections, and Gorman says she’s working on having a few public drop-off points, in case you can’t make it on Tampon Tuesday
