A ‘Whale’ of a bit of local history being made by Film Society and Cinema Six on Monday night

The Brendan Fraser movie that’s being touted as a favourite for Best Film at this year’s Oscars is making history right here in Timmins.

“The Whale” is being brought in for one night only, this coming Monday at Cinema Six. Timmins Film Society board member Paul Charette says tickets began selling quickly

“We started to talk to the theatre and said ‘You know what? Can we possibly do this, where we have every single auditorium in the theatre building taken up to show this movie?,’” he notes.

So for the first time in the theatre’s history all six of the screens will be showing the same movie.

Charette says the society itself is benefitting from the hype, through more awareness.

“I hear it now,” he comments. “The society’s been in existence since the late 80s, that ‘Oh, I didn’t even know there was a Timmins Film Society.”

There are more off-mainstream movies to come this season for the film society… between now and May.

Sneak peek: On Monday, February 27th, Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” will be shown.
