Council approves a $90K Deloro study

Council has decided on a plan of action to collect gas at the Deloro landfill. They have to send a detailed design report to the Ministry of the Environment by the end of the year.

City Engineer Luc Duval says two aspects of operation have to be looked at. The first one is methane production, and the other is leachate treatment.

Environmental Coordinator for the city Scott Tam says leachate treats itself naturally, but if that natural system fails, there needs to be a back-up plan in place. Council is giving the green light for AMEC Foster Wheeler to move forward with the design study. It will look at a leachate collection pond, and gas collection. Council approved almost $90,000 for the study.
