Weather advisory in effect through end of week

You might want to resort to Plan B for travelling anywhere in time for Christmas.

Environment Canada has a weather advisory in effect for Northeastern and Southern Ontario.  Warning preparedness meteorologist Peter Kimbell says a very big storm system is approaching on Thursday and Friday, although our immediate region will escape the worst of it.

“It could be significant amounts of snowfall,” he says.”I’m not going to put a number on it yet, but it should start probably Wednesday night, persist throughout the day Thursday and into Friday as well, and then maybe end gradually late in the day on Saturday. So it’s going to be a fairly significant or long event.”

Kimbell adds that we could experience stronger winds, Friday into Saturday.

“Twenty kilometres an hour, maybe 25, maybe at the most 30 but after Friday, so Friday evening and onwards, it should be 30-50 kmh. So stronger winds blowing it around, so more hazardous for driving conditions.”

The big concern in the south is a flash freeze that could interrupt driving and flying.
